Received a presentation in response to a legislative directive regarding the Neighborhood Safety Department, which manages $76 million in contracts for the Behavioral Crisis Response (BCR) teams, violence interrupters and other programs, from Public Safety Commissioner Todd Barnette.

  • Concerns stemmed from confusion over whether the department needed additional funds during the budget discussion last year and the answer being unclear.
  • Committee Chair Wonsley brought up unpaid contracts at the end of 2024, per the vendors and allegations of fraud, but looks forward to an ongoing audit of the department. Other council members also voiced interest in seeing the audit when complete.

Approved contracts for the Developer Technical Assistance Training program, DTAP, which trains individuals to navigate the development process and secure funding for projects around the city.

  • Staff noted this program will cost $400,000 in 2024.
  • Between May 2022 and today, participants, who are majority non-white, secured $11 million in loans for small projects in the city.
