Council Member LaTrisha Vetaw, who chairs the Public Health & Safety Committee, moved adding to the agenda a proposed agreement between the police union and city. The agreement would draw from $19 million in state funds to pay eligible police officers $18,000 retention bonuses and $15,000 signing bonuses for new hires. Mayor Jacob Frey and MPD Chief Brian O’Hara have advocated for the deal as a way to replenish MPD’s ranks. On roll call, the motion failed, meaning that council members were not up for discussing it.
