In 2023, Henry Ford Health, Michigan State University, and the Detroit Pistons proposed a sweeping community development consisting of a major expansion of Henry Ford Hospital, with a new patient tower and a new medical research facility, in addition to 600 units of housing with commercial space, two parking garages, and new public green space. The Future of Health development was deemed a Tier 1 project under the City of Detroit’s Community Benefits Ordinance (CBO). The developer and the Neighborhood Advisory Council (NAC) participated in the CBO process to determine impacts of the development on the community and to agree on appropriate community benefits to address those impacts.
