Overview: In an effort to increase public transparency and accessibility for the first citywide planning initiative in Chicago since the 1960s, Documenters will attend and document over 60 We Will Chicago planning meetings in small groups—or “pods”—made up of 3 Documenters per pod.

Deliverables: Documenters in each pod will:

  • Attend a 1-hour training session hosted by City Bureau staff
  • Collectively attend 7 meetings during the weeklong assignment term (1 Documenter per meeting, 2-3 meetings per Documenter) Perform group edits, for which you will be paid an additional $150

Important Note: By applying for this assignment, you are applying for the weeklong pod. Please ensure you can attend the hour-long training AND at least 3-5 of the meeting times listed below:

  • 1-hour training session: April 19, 12 p.m.
  • Arts and Culture–April 25, 4-6 p.m.
  • Economic Development–April 26, 2-4 p.m.
  • Environment, Climate and Energy–April 26, 6-8 p.m.
  • Public Health and Safety–April 26, 6-8 p.m.
  • Transportation and Infrastructure–April 27, 6-8 p.m.
  • Housing and Neighborhoods–April 28, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
  • Lifelong Learning–April 28, 2-4 p.m.

As the principal planning agency for the City of Chicago, the Department of Planning and Development (DPD) promotes the comprehensive growth and sustainability of the City and its neighborhoods. The department also oversees the City’s zoning and land use policies and, through its economic development and housing bureaus, employs a variety of resources to encourage business and real estate development, as well as a diverse and stable housing stock throughout the City.
