Following this announcement, the council is doing a deep dive into the Seattle is Dying Documentary that discusses factors that impact public safety and possible solutions and perspectives that have been explored.

Some of the issues that are mentioned by the Seattle police department are the drop in morale and lack of power against crime. This was further impacted by the increase in unfiled cases from 25% to 46% in 2016.

Solutions that have been tried and proposed by Rhode Island (another place discussed in the documentary) are treatment from inside the prison and resources for post incarceration. 93% of the people who were enrolled in program are following through.

^name of the program mentioned above is MAT (Medication Assisted Treatment)

Next item in the agenda is the status of the Police Status of the District 11.

A recent development for public safety initiatives on the West side is the People’s Plan for Community Safety which mentions plans to bring more resources to the youth and support victims of crime, among other things.

Here are some graphics that put into perspective the current crime statistics of Police District 11. Some accomplishments include crime reports and arrests have gone down about half since 2001. However, there have been little changes in both in the last 2 yrs.

The number 1 cause of calls to service in District 11 are about the selling of narcotics, with the number 2 reason being domestic violence.

Right before the meeting adjourned, there was talk about collabing with Semicolon, a black woman owned book store which has a location opening on the west side very soon! Meeting adjourned at 7pm.
