New Wayne County Sheriff Ray Washington. Inmate food contract extended by $15M.

Commissioner Martha G. Scott mentions that she would like the new jail and/or the building on Woodward to be renamed in honor of the late Sheriff Napoleon.

Commissioner Sam Baydoun and Commissioner Melissa Daub also joined the call the call to congratulate the new Sheriff. Commissioner Duab spoke with the new Sheriff about CPL training and weapons safety.

Sheriff Washington mentions the need for more personnel in the Sheriff’s Department. Deputies are working mandatory overtime. Entry level salaries need to be higher. Moving to the new jail will casue the department to operate more efficiently.

Sheriff pledged to work with Commissioners and be responsive to their requests. Commissioner Irma Clark-Coleman suggested he let the Commissioners know when he will be in their area. The Sheriff’s office pledge to do this.

Commissioner Irma Clark-Coleman asked about the status of vaccinations in the department. 181 deputies have recieved at least on dose, 81 have received both. No inmates have been vaccinated.

Public Comment Session had one comment concerning that was submitted by email. It raised a concern of non-medical personnel in the jails administering medical tests. The Sheriff’s Department agreed to look into it. https://t.co/SSWUz8QmTz
